What is BIKE4U?
BIKE4U is a bike sharing service offered by the Mobility Munich and Dingolfing and the successor of ProBike. BIKE4U is a mobility offer for business and can be used for commuting between the BIKE4U stations and the BIKE4U return areas in Munich. The bikes can be booked and reserved via the mobility app Urby.
How can I use BIKE4U?
To use BIKE4U, download the Urby app from the BMW Hub App onto your iPhone and register via 2-factor authentification. With an active Urby account, no additional registration is required.
Where can I find the Urby app?
The Urby app is available via the business mobile phone in the BMW Hub App.
Is it necessary to register via the Urby app?
Yes, a one-time registration via Urby is necessary to use BIKE4U. An additional registration is not required.
In which area can I use BIKE4U?
The bikes can be used for business purposes to commute between the BIKE4U stations and the BIKE4U return areas at the Munich and Dingolfing location. You can find the BIKE4U stations and return areas in the Urby app. Open Urby and click on BIKE4U in order to see a map that shows the stations (blue pin with a white number) and return areas (blue areas).
Can I ride a BIKE4U on the factory premises?
Bikes may not be used within the fencing of factory premises.
When can I use BIKE4U?
BIKE4U is available for business use from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, the use of BIKE4U is not permitted.
Can I also use BIKE4U for private routes?
No. The bike sharing service is only permitted for business trips. Exception: Dingolfing between train station and plant. As an alternative in Munich, you can use the public bike sharing services of e.g. Deutsche Bahn (Call a Bike) or MVG (MVG Rad) for private purposes.
Can I use a BIKE4U for my way to work and back home?
No. BIKE4U may only be used for business purposes.
Who can use BIKE4U?
All employees (incl. ZAK, PraDiDo and apprentice) of the BMW Group can use BIKE4U.
Can employees of external companies also use BIKE4U?
Employees of external companies (service providers, suppliers, etc.) are not entitled to use the bike sharing service.
Is the use free of charge?
Yes, the use of BIKE4U is free of charge for business trips. The use of BIKE4U for private purposes is not permitted.
What is bike sharing?
Bike sharing is a public bike rental system. The bike-sharing service BIKE4U provides bikes at different BMW Group locations in Munich and Dingolfing that can be used by all BMW Group employees for business purposes. For this reason, it is important that you return your bike to a station or return area when you no longer need it. This way other users have the possibility to rent a BIKE4U as well.
HOW TO USE BIKE4U
BEFORE THE RIDE/ RENTING
How can I rent a BIKE4U?
Download the Urby app on your iPhone and register. You will see the option “BIKE4U” in Urby if there is an available bike near you. Click on BIKE4U in order to see a map that shows the location of the bikes. There are two ways to rent a BIKE4U:
(1) Renting via map: Click on “BIKE4U” in Urby and select a bike near you on the map. If the bike is in a return area, press the "Unlock" icon. If the bike is at a station, camera access will be requested. Allow Urby to access your camera to scan the QR code on the BIKE4U. If you deny access to your camera, you can press the keyboard icon. Enter the five-digit number you find under the QR code on the BIKE4U. After agreeing to the terms of use, press the "Unlock" icon. The lock of the BIKE4U will now open automatically. GPS is required for renting via map.
(2) Fast renting via QR code on the bike: Press the "Rent" icon. You will find the “Rent” icon at the bottom right corner under the option “BIKE4U” in Urby. Scan the QR code on the BIKE4U. If you deny access to your camera, you can press the keyboard icon. Enter the five-digit number that you find under the QR code on the BIKE4U. After agreeing to the terms of use, press the "Unlock" icon. The lock of the BIKE4U will now open automatically.
How can I unlock the BIKE4U?
The bikes can be unlocked via Urby. After booking a bike and agreeing to the terms of use, the lock unlocks automatically.
How do I know where a BIKE4U is located?
Select the option "BIKE4U" in Urby. On the map you can see the BIKE4U stations with the available number of bikes (blue pin with white number) and the available bikes in the return areas (blue pin with bike icon).
What do I have to consider before using a BIKE4U?
Before using a BIKE4U, make sure that your return destination is within a return area or at a station.
Carry out a function test (e.g. brake and light test) before use. If you detect a technical defect that could affect road safety, please book another BIKE4U. Please also report the damage immediately using the damage report function in the Urby app. To use the damage report function, click on “BIKE4U” and press the “Damage” icon:
Enter the bike number. You can find the five-digit bike number below the QR code.
Select a category depending on the damage and describe the damage if necessary.
It will be helpful if you provide your location by agreeing to "Send geolocation". This helps us finding the broken bike faster.
Now press "Send".
If you notice minor defects such as tire damage, rim damage or gear shift defects, please also report this via the damage report function in the Urby app.
Can I reserve a BIKE4U in advance?
A pre-reservation is currently not available.
What does it mean when the LED on the BIKE4U lock is orange?
If the LED on the BIKE4U lock is orange, the bike is currently not available. Please rent another BIKE4U with a green LED on the lock.
Reasons for no BIKE4U option in Urby:
If you do not see a BIKE4U option in Urby, make sure you have not entered a destination. If you still do not see a BIKE4U option, either the nearest BIKE4U is too far away, or all bikes are currently in use or reserved.
Is it mandatory to wear a helmet?
No, helmets are not mandatory. A helmet is recommended, but you can decide for yourself whether you want to wear a helmet when using the bike.
Why does the lock on the BIKE4U not open?
If the lock on the bike does not open, please try to rent another BIKE4U. Furthermore, it will be helpful if you report the incident using the damage report function in the Urby app. To use the damage report function, click on “BIKE4U” and press the “Damage” icon:
Enter the bike number. You can find the five-digit bike number below the QR code.
Select the category “Lock” and add that you could not open the lock via Urby.
It will be helpful if you provide your location by agreeing to "Send geolocation". This helps us finding the broken bike faster.
Now press "Send".
HOW TO USE BIKE4U
DURING THE RIDE
Can I take a break during the booking?
No, no breaks are intended during the BIKE4U ride. Please return the BIKE4U when you no longer need it. This way other users have the possibility to rent a BIKE4U as well.
Does my smartphone have to be connected to the internet while using a BIKE4U?
A working internet connection is essential for renting and unlocking the bike. No internet connection is necessary while using or returning the bike. When returning the bike, please make sure that you are within a return area or at one of the BIKE4U stations, which are marked with signs. The BIKE4U should also not obstruct any third parties and escape routes and fire brigade access routes should be kept clear. To end your renting, please close the bike lock.
What to do when noticing a defect on the BIKE4U during usage?
If you detect a technical defect that could affect road safety, please book another BIKE4U. Please also report the damage immediately using the damage report function in the Urby app. To use the damage report function, click on “BIKE4U” and press the “Damage” icon:
Enter the bike number. You can find the five-digit bike number below the QR code.
Select a category depending on the damage and describe the damage if necessary.
It will be helpful if you provide your location by agreeing to "Send geolocation". This helps us finding the broken bike faster.
Now press "Send".
If you notice a technical defect during the ride that could affect road safety, you can park the BIKE4U outside a station/ return area. Please make sure that no other road users (e.g. pedestrians, wheelchair users or cars) are obstructed by the bike and that escape routes and fire brigade access roads are kept clear.

END THE RIDE
Where can I park the BIKE4U after usage?
The BIKE4U must be returned to one of the BIKE4U stations or within a return area. The stations and return areas are displayed in Urby (with a blue pin with a white number or a blue area). In order to ensure better availability of the bikes for other users, we recommend parking the bikes at the BIKE4U stations. Also make sure that no other road users (e.g. pedestrians, wheelchair users or cars) are obstructed and that escape routes and fire brigade access roads are kept clear. If the return is successful, you will receive a confirmation in Urby.
What do I have to consider when finishing my ride?
Check whether you are at a BIKE4U station or within a return area.
Check whether the parked bike is not a hindrance for other road users (e.g. for cars or wheelchair users).
Check if escape routes or fire brigade access routes are kept clear.
If the above points are fulfilled, close the BIKE4U lock. If the return is successful, you will receive a confirmation in Urby.
Where can I see whether I am at a BIKE4U station or within a return area?
Select the option "BIKE4U" in Urby. The BIKE4U stations (marked with a blue pin with a white number) and the return areas (marked with a blue area) are shown on the map in Urby. If your location service is activated in Urby, you can also use the blue dot for orientation. You can also recognize the BIKE4U stations by the signs.
What happens if I do not park the BIKE4U properly?
If you do not park your BIKE4U properly (i.e., outside the BIKE4U stations or return areas), you will be automatically blocked after 24 hours for 4 weeks. You can prevent the blocking by opening the bike again within 15 minutes and parking it correctly.
How can I see whether my BIKE4U is parked properly?
If you park your BIKE4U at a station or return area and close the lock on the bike, you will receive a confirmation in Urby that your return was successful. If you do not park the BIKE4U properly (i.e., outside a station or return area) and lock the bike, you will receive a message in Urby. This message informs you that you have parked the bike incorrectly. If this is the case, please open the lock again via Urby and park the BIKE4U properly.
Is it possible to get permanently banned?
In justified cases (especially in the case of misuse or serious violation of the terms of use), you can be permanently excluded from the right to use BIKE4U. A serious violation is, for example, when you repeatedly violate the terms of use.
What do I do if the battery of my smartphone is empty after the renting has started?
As soon as the bike is locked, the renting ends automatically. Please park the BIKE4U within a return area or at a BIKE4U station marked with special signs. Please make sure that the BIKE4U does not obstruct third parties and that escape routes and fire brigade access routes are kept clear.
What do I do if the lock on the BIKE4U no longer locks?
If the lock on the BIKE4U can no longer be closed, please report the damage using the damage report function in Urby. To use the damage report function, click on “BIKE4U” and press the "Damage" icon:
• Enter the bike number. You can find the five-digit bike number below the QR code.
• Select the category “Lock” and add that you cannot close the lock.
• It will be helpful if you provide your location by agreeing to “Send geolocation”. This helps us finding the broken bike faster.
• Now press "Send".
Your BIKE4U booking will remains active in Urby until the operator has collected the bike.
To continue using BIKE4U, please follow the instructions below: Call the BIKE4U hotline at the bike (089 - 44388991 - 0) and have your account ID ready. The staff will now help you to rent a BIKE4U.

Will my route be tracked?
No, your route will not be tracked.
Do I have to grant access to my camera and location to use BIKE4U?
The use of BIKE4U is only possible if you grant Urby access to your location and/or camera.
ACCIDENT/ CASE OF DAMAGE
What to do if I have an accident with a BIKE4U and I am injured?
If you have an accident while using BIKE4U for business purposes, you are insured by the Employer's Liability Insurance Association. The BMW internal accident report (work accident/travel accident) must be conducted immediately (LINK- the link can only be accessed via the BMW intranet).
What to do if I cause damage to a third party while riding a BIKE4U?
In the event of damage to a third party, inform BIKE4U@bmw.de immediately. If necessary, you have to hand in a damage report (LINK- the link can only be accessed via the BMW intranet).

If you detect a technical defect that could affect road safety, please report the damage immediately using the damage report function in the Urby app. To use the damage report function, click on “BIKE4U” and press the “Damage” icon:

FACTS ABOUT THE BIKES
How is a BIKE4U equipped?
The bike provides all the safety elements required by the StVO (front and rear brakes, front and rear lights, reflectors, bright-sounding bell, etc.), as well as gears, a height-adjustable saddle and a front basket.
How do I turn the light on?
The light is always switched on automatically.
Can I adjust the bike to my body height?
Yes, you have the possibility to adjust the seat according to your body size.
Does a BIKE4U has a transport device?
Yes, the bikes have a front basket. The permitted load of the front basket is 10kg. When transporting something, please ensure that everything is properly secured. You can find more information about the use of the front basket on the bike.

How do I recognize a BIKE4U station?
BIKE4U stations are marked with a BIKE4U sign. In the Urby app, they are marked with a blue pin. The white number in the blue pin shows you how many bikes are currently available at the station.
Can I book several bikes at the same time?
No, you can only book one bike at a time.
Is there insurance cover for business trips with a BIKE4U?
You are insured when using a BIKE4U for business purposes. Private use is generally prohibited and can lead to personal liability. You can find more information about the liability regulations in the terms of use under the paragraph "Liability, insurance and behavior in the event of damage".
Can I collect “Urby LEAFS” with a BIKE4U ride?
Yes, you can collect five LEAFS with one BIKE4U ride. To collect them, please notice:
• Your start and end point must be different or
• Your ride must last at least 5 minutes if you want to return the bike to the same station/return area.

Can another person ride the BIKE4U I have rented?
No. Use is only permitted for the person who also completed the renting.
Why am I banned from BIKE4U?
There are different reasons for a ban. Reasons can be, for example: an incorrect return, use outside the permitted period of time or a serious violation of the terms of use. Depending on the severity of the violation, a four-week or permanent ban will be imposed. Questions about an irregular blocking or other technical problems can be sent via BIKE4U@bmw.de.
What to do if the BIKE4U has been stolen?
Please report the theft immediately to BIKE4U@bmw.de.
